The following stipulations must be met:
• child, cat and dog free home
• level-headed, compassionate, loving and patient owner(s)
• quiet and peaceful environment
• owner to ideally be at home most of the day
• must remain a house cat and never let outside
• not to be declawed under any circumstances
• we must be able to initially home visit the new home

Diesel requires special care:
• severely bullied by two of our other cats
• insecure and timid at present
• hides away from the other cats
• occasionally pees where he shouldn’t (fear/stress-related)

Background:

Diesel is almost 5 years old. He is a really pretty cat to look at. He has big rosettes and gorgeous green eyes. When he is happy and you stroke him, he fluffs up like a little hyena and scampers sideways. He has no malicious traits like scratching or biting. He doesn’t scratch furniture. The only thing he doesn’t like is his tummy rubbing when he rolls over, he will rabbit kick you!

Before the bullying started he was an adorable, happy, playful, lively little guy and we want him to be back in that place again. We love him very much and really do not want to part with him; it will be very upsetting for us. But he would be ideally suited to someone who is home all day and can give him the love and attention he needs, plus the comfort that there are no other cats to bully him.

We recognizethat his conformation isn’t the best and so he often walks in a very submissive looking manner. The other cats have picked up on this, which they identify as being a weakness. And this has led directly to the bullying. His stance is probably the result of a slight birth defect, although vets have never been able to confirm our personal theory on that. Most vets usually fail to notice it at all and it needs no attention or care.

Due directly to the bullying in our opinion, he will occasionally pee away from the box. Purely as a precaution, we recently had him tested for a potential urine infection and examined for any underlying medical concerns, which might have promoted that behavior. But he was given the all-clear. We have also worked with an animal behaviorist to try to deal with the bullying peer behavior, too. But having tried all these avenues, ultimately this has proved unsuccessful.

We believe his submissiveness behavior and occasional outside of the litter box use are a pure cry for help – it is simply fear related and we feel any negative traits will quickly stop once he settles into his new surroundings and realizes he is not going to be regularly attacked anymore.

We are highlighting all of the above, as we want to be totally transparent with any new owner, so that they have no reason to adopt Diesel without first careful due consideration; so that they will be able to support him from adoption until the end of his natural lifetime.

Aside the above concerns, he is in good health, has a beautiful coat and is very loving in nature. It breaks our heart, but we feel we have to do what is right for Diesel’s quality of life and not our own.
